Portfolio Design & Build

Personal Portfolio

Reimagining my portfolio with a fresh creative vision, built to capture attention and inspire.

When I first built my portfolio, I used Wix to showcase my college projects and internship work. While it served as a easy way to upload my designs, I quickly realized it wasn’t enough to effectively present my skills. After months of applying for jobs with little success, I understood that the problem wasn’t my work—it was how it was being presented.

For my first custom portfolio, I moved to Webflow, creating a more professional site that better aligned with my growing skillset. That site ultimately landed me my first job, with my employer accrediting the portfolio as a key factor in their decision to hire me. After a couple of years, I decided it was time for a full refresh. This second iteration gave me the chance to incorporate everything I had learned and elevate my portfolio with a more dynamic and creative design. This version marked a new chapter in my career, keeping my portfolio up-to-date and reflective of my current skills.

Custom Animations & Interactions

For this iteration of my portfolio, I wanted to push the boundaries and create a dynamic experience. I invested extra time and effort into crafting custom animations, starting with a cinematic preloader that immediately signals to visitors that this site is a step above. Once the loader finishes, the top section of the site smoothly slides into place, followed by the other sections as you scroll down the page.

To enhance interactivity, I added subtle animations within the main text block, highlighting key words with hand-drawn UI elements. For example, the word "engaging" is circled and "innovative" is underlined, reinforcing traits that define my approach. These small touches elevate the viewing experience, while emphasizing qualities that I value in both my work and design philosophy.

Showcasing My Work

As my professional experience grew, so did the range and diversity of my portfolio. I wanted to showcase not only the work I created during my college years but also my professional projects, which included new categories like marketing and video—areas I hadn’t explored much before. With the expanding content, I realized it would be helpful to give visitors an easy way to filter through different types of projects, ensuring they could quickly find what they were interested in.

To improve the user experience, I added a spotlight hover effect on the project cards. This lets users focus on one project at a time, highlighting the image and text while fading out the surrounding content. It helps make the viewing experience cleaner and more focused.

The Evolution of My Portfolio

I introduced custom glowing buttons to complement the dark theme, creating a sleek yet subtle contrast. To keep the site visually engaging, I also incorporated motion throughout the design, ensuring the animations didn’t compromise the site’s speed or performance.

Like most creative projects, my portfolio didn’t stay the same. It evolved over time as I updated and refined it. After creating my first version, I moved on to the second iteration you see here, and eventually pivoted to create my freelance-specific site. This portfolio serves as a great example of what’s possible with web design—pushing boundaries to create something you’re proud of, while also meeting the practical needs of showcasing case studies and marketing yourself as an individual.
